Campaign Overview

An Award-Winning Garden was a storytelling-driven social media campaign centered around local gardener T.C. Soli and his award-winning vegetable garden.

The goal of the campaign was to capture the journey behind the results, highlighting the time, care, and experience that goes into growing something incredible!

Through a mix of storytelling, educational content, and real-life moments, this campaign made the idea of growing your own food feel approachable, exciting, and achievable, with a twist of county fair magic!

The Strategy Behind the Campaign

This campaign was designed to inspire, educate, and build a meaningful connection with the audience through real, lived moments.

The strategy focused on documenting the full journey, from hands-on work in the garden to the final moments at the county fair, highlighting the process behind the results rather than just the outcome, while naturally establishing T.C.'s credibility through his experience.

This approach allowed the content to feel authentic and engaging, while making the idea of growing your own food feel approachable, rewarding, and possible for gardeners at every level!

Starting with the right foundation makes all the difference 🏡🌱

With a new job on the horizon and less time to grow everything from seed, T.C. found himself at Countryside Flower Shop in search of vegetable transplants.

That summer, he realized Countryside's homegrown plants outperformed what he had been growing under lights, giving his garden a strong and healthy start, with the variety to grow everything he wanted!

Since then, Countryside has been a part of his routine each season ❤️

Are weeds stopping you from gardening? 🌱

Through years of trial and error, T.C. Soli has discovered what actually works for setting up a successful garden, including a simple routine that helps keep weeds under control! Here are a few tips to help you set your garden up for success:

🍃 Don't skip mulching, even when you're preparing your soil before planting:

Weed seeds can last for years, and once they're exposed to light, they begin to germinate. Always keep your soil covered with grass clippings, straw, or hay. If you don't have enough to fully cover the soil, T.C. recommends using a scuffle hoe in the morning on dry dirt so the weed tops dry out and don't re-root.

🐴 Feed your soil, not just your plants:

Your garden's soil will always benefit from added organic matter! Composted kitchen scraps and horse or chicken manure help create richer, more productive soil.

    Other helpful resources T.C. recommends:
    🏡 The Agricultural Extension Office
    🏡 Local Master Gardener Office

Save this for when you start planning your garden 🌈

The best part of gardening isn't what T.C. Soli keeps, it's what he gives 🥦🧄

After moving from Connecticut to North Carolina, T.C. took a step back from competing in the fair and instead focused on the simple joy of gardening and sharing his harvest with others.

It was there that he started his "Ministry of Garden Blessings," giving away nearly all of his weekly harvest to neighbors, coworkers, and members of his church!

Even during COVID, T.C. and his wife began cooking soups from their harvest to deliver to sequestered parishioners, and they haven't stopped since.

Today, that tradition continues. Each Sunday after church, T.C. shares what he's grown, spreading joy through both gardening and giving ❤️

Placement in the garden is an art T.C. has learned over 46 years of gardening experience 🎨🌿

It's not just about spacing, it's about knowing where to plant and how to make the most of every inch! Let's dive into it:

🪏 Maximize your spacing:
Giving your plants the room to flourish will help them produce larger yields. Try planting in a zig-zag pattern to maximize the space between each plant.

🏡 Use your space intentionally:
Intentional placement helps every plant meet its sunlight needs! When building your garden, create north-south-facing rows to optimize exposure, and keep taller, trelised, or sprawling growers along the garden's edges so they don't shade out other plants.

🥬 Interplant + plan ahead:
Plant short-season veggies (like lettuce!) with slower-growing plants. This way, you'll harvest them before their root zone gets shaded. For crops with shorter harvest windows, succession planting can help extend your yield.

🌷 Bonus tool tip: A Hinged Tulip Bulb Planter makes transplanting quick and easy! This tool is perfect for creating deep, consistent holes with minimal effort.
